About Us
"Our model of legal support makes us stand out from the rest - we care about our clients’ situations and will help them as much as we can, through our free or affordable services."
Our Services
"One of the greatest challenges to accessing specialist legal advice is that people don’t always recognise that their problem has a legal resolution. Providing people with specialist legal advice quickly so that we can support them to resolve their problem remains a priority for us."
Support Us
"Without your support, we simply won’t be able to provide the range of free and affordable services that we do to the local community, you, your family and friends."

They say life begins at 40… and for the North East Law Centre that is certainly true!

As an organisation, we have survived a rollercoaster of 40 years and in our 40th year we wish to commemorate this as we look forward to the future.

It is fair to say that four decades of great passion, amazing work and huge commitment from our team has made an enormous difference to so many lives across the North East. As a not for profit charity, we provide both free, funded services and affordable fee-paying services where our client is always our top priority. We want those we represent to have fair access to justice, know their rights and feel empowered to enforce them.

As well as our experienced and dedicated staff, we wouldn't be here today without the large network of partners that support us, including the Law Centres Network, Action Foundation, Advocacy Centre North, Changing Lives, West End Refugee Service, Sunderland University, Victims First Northumbria (VFN) (and many more) as well as our key funders - are Newcastle City Council, Big Lottery, Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, Lloyds Bank Foundation, Legal Education Foundation, Red Cross, Community Foundation, Baring Foundation, AB Charitable Trust, Greggs Foundation and Garfield Weston. We would like to say a huge thank you to each of you for giving us the support we need to deliver high quality legal services to the North East community and we look forward to building upon our strong partnerships in the future.

Our staff, past and present, have worked tirelessly to get to where we are today. Over the last year alone, the Centre supported over 1,022 clients and interacted with over 120 local organisations, saving clients £470,000 in legal advice fees. As we turn 40, we are also experiencing a period of growth, where we are looking to expand our services to include welfare benefits advice, develop our work with community groups to provide a more substantial programme of community legal education, and continue to extend our team of legal experts including being the host for a prestigious Justice First Fellowship.

We have big plans to celebrate our anniversary next year, and are currently finalising details of the events, so please continue to visit our website for details.  In the meantime, we would love to hear from you if the Law Centre has helped you in the last 40 years, please contact 0191 230 4777 or [email protected] and speak to a member of the team.
