North East Refugee Law Project (NERLP)
Funded by Northern Rock Foundation and the Future Advice Providers Fund, NERLP is a partnership project between Newcastle Law Centre and Justice First Ltd which offers a range of legal services to unrepresented Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the North East of England who are unable to receive Legal Aid.

First Tier Tribunal Refusals
Appointments available with Newcastle Law Centre’s Immigration and Asylum Solicitor, who will offer advice on eligibility in applying for permission to appeal to the First Tier Tribunal.
Brief advice appointment
Refugees and Asylum seekers from across the North East can access an appointment with a Level 2 OISC advisor or Immigration and Asylum Solicitor. Advice can cover:
- Submitting a fresh claim
- Submitting and preparing an appeal
- Family Reunion Applications (if Legal Aid is not available)
- Human Rights Applications
Legal Buddy Workshop
Workshops will be led by specialist OISC accredited advisors and immigration solicitors to support clients in preparing their case and will be assisted by trained Legal Buddy volunteers so that clients can put together their own cases.
Workshops will run regularly, with full support provided. Clients are able to attend several workshops to support the preparation of their case.
To access these, clients will first be offered an advice appointment.
All services are available at Newcastle Law Centre main office and at Justice First in Stockton.
Clients can also attend drop in sessions at:
- West End Refugee Service, Newcastle upon Tyne first Tuesday of month
- Friends of the Drop In (FODI), Sunderland, one Wednesday per month please call us to check for details
